How TOIG Transformed Sustainability Performance for DPD.
Project Brief
DPD UK required a fully furnished, operational workspace for a 58,000 sq ft facility, delivered within a tight programme and aligned with their ambitious sustainability commitments.
The objective was clear: create a high-performing workspace that reduces environmental impact without compromising on quality, cost, or speed.
Our Approach
At TOIG, sustainability isn’t an add-on; it’s engineered into the solution.
We conducted a detailed sustainability benchmarking exercise across multiple furniture manufacturers, evaluating recycled content, sustainability certifications, manufacturing processes and lifecycle performance. This enabled us to develop a sustainability-led specification that outperformed the original brief.
Sustainability Benchmarking & Impact Analysis
- Up to +45.9% increase in recycled content
- Cost savings of 20–35% per product line
- CO₂ reductions including 8.3kg CO₂e saved per chair and 290.5kg CO₂e across one rollout
- 1,037kg CO₂e saved through recycling credits
- 57kg plastic waste eliminated
- 170kg CO₂e saved through improved delivery methods
We carried out a data-led sustainability analysis comparing requested vs alternative products.
Making
Sustainability
Visible
QR codes were integrated across all furniture, transforming each item into a digital touchpoint for sustainability. By scanning the codes, staff could instantly access detailed information on materials, sourcing, carbon impact, and end-of-life pathways. This initiative made environmental data visible and accessible and turning the workspace itself into an interactive sustainability platform rather than a static environment.
Sustainable Highlights
The Sutton Chair was proposed to DPD for its strong sustainability credentials, featuring 30% post-industrial recycled polypropylene and being 100% recyclable. Backed by a 20-year warranty, it provides a durable, long-term seating solution that reduces the need for replacement.
We designed and proposed bespoke desk-end panels featuring the DPD logo, manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. These panels combine strong brand presence with practical benefits, improving acoustics whilst supporting DPD’s sustainability goals. The result is a functional, visually impactful solution that transforms everyday office furniture into a statement of environmental responsibility.
The Outcome
Delivered on time and within budget
Measurable reductions in C02 & waste
Sustainability embedded throughout
Increased employee engagement
By leading a comprehensive sustainability benchmarking exercise and re-engineering the original specification, TOIG delivered a high-performing, future-ready workplace, enhancing environmental performance, driving long-term cost efficiencies, and reinforcing DPD’s commitment to sustainability through a clearly visible and measurable outcome.
"Working with Vicky has been an absolute pleasure from start to finish. What really stood out was the proactive approach in offering more sustainable alternatives without compromising on quality or design, alongside a very hands-on service throughout the entire project.
They delivered a workspace solution that not only looks great but also supports our teams' day-to-day operations. Communication was clear throughout, timelines were met, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to any organisation looking for a professional, reliable, engaging partner who truly cares about the quality of their work and their client relationships.”
