DPD Sittingbourne

2 Month Completion | 58,000 SQ FT | Furniture Selection | Project Management | Installation | Delivered Under Budget

How TOIG Transformed Sustainability Performance for DPD UK.

Project Brief

DPD UK required a fully furnished, operational workspace for a 58,000 sq ft facility, delivered within a tight programme and aligned with their ambitious sustainability commitments.

The objective was clear: create a high-performing workspace that reduces environmental impact without compromising on quality, cost, or speed.

Our Approach

At TOIG, sustainability isn’t an add-on, it’s engineered into the solution.

We conducted a detailed sustainability benchmarking exercise across multiple furniture manufacturers, evaluating recycled content, certifications, manufacturing processes and lifecycle performance. This enabled us to develop a sustainability-led specification that outperformed the original brief.

The Challenge

TOIG Solution

TOIG delivered a fully managed turnkey solution, providing sustainable furniture supply and installation, bespoke joinery and countertops, storage walls and blinds, alongside comprehensive project coordination to ensure a seamless delivery from specification through to completion.

Sustainability

Sustainability was a key consideration throughout the project, with products carefully selected for their high recycled content, fully recyclable components, UK-based manufacturing, and long-lasting durability to minimise environmental impact and reduce future replacement requirements.

Delivering a sustainable workplace solution at scale required careful cost management, coordination with multiple contractors, and full installation ahead of the depot's operational go-live. These challenges were further intensified by a tight programme that spanned the Christmas manufacturing shutdown period.

Sustainability Benchmarking & Impact Analysis

We carried out a data-led sustainability analysis comparing requested vs alternative products.

  • Up to +45.9% increase in recycled content

  • Cost savings of 20–35% per product line

  • CO₂ reductions including 8.3kg CO₂e saved per chair and 290.5kg CO₂e across one rollout

  • 1,037kg CO₂e saved through recycling credits

  • 57kg plastic waste eliminated

  • ~170kg CO₂e saved through improved delivery methods

Making Sustainability Visible

To encourage engagement with the environmental credentials of the workspace, QR codes were applied across key furniture items, allowing staff and visitors to access sustainability information and product lifecycle data instantly.

Key highlights included:

  • Multipurpose chairs manufactured using 30% recycled polypropylene, fully recyclable and backed by a 20-year warranty.

  • The use of post-consumer and post-industrial recycled materials, including PET acoustic panels made from recycled plastic bottles.

  • Waste reduction initiatives such as eliminating single-use plastic packaging and utilising reusable delivery materials throughout the project.

PET Acoustics

We designed and proposed bespoke desk-end panels featuring the DPD logo, manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. These panels combine strong brand presence with practical benefits, improving acoustics whilst supporting DPD’s sustainability goals. The result is a functional, visually impactful solution that transforms everyday office furniture into a statement of environmental responsibility.

The Outcome

The project was delivered on time and within budget, achieving measurable reductions in waste and environmental impact while embedding sustainability throughout the workplace. Through a comprehensive sustainability benchmarking exercise and the re-engineering of the original specification, TOIG created a high-performing, future-ready environment that supports long-term cost efficiencies, increases employee engagement, and reinforces DPD's commitment to sustainability through visible and measurable outcomes.

"Working with Vicky has been an absolute pleasure from start to finish.  What really stood out was the proactive approach in offering more sustainable alternatives without compromising on quality or design, alongside a very hands-on service throughout the entire project.

They delivered a workspace solution that not only looks great but also supports our teams' day-to-day operations. Communication was clear throughout, timelines were met, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to any organisation looking for a professional, reliable, engaging partner who truly cares about the quality of their work and their client relationships.”

“Their attention to detail, creativity, and genuine understanding of our operational needs made the whole process seamless.”
